I was searching for online learning resources and ran into the following article:
“An Online Bioinformatics Curriculum” , written by David B. Searls. It is basically a collection of free online lectures and courses about biology, mathematics and computer science.
The article mostly suggests relatively basic courses, but the collection of online learning resources can be extremely useful for finding free lectures about basically anything.
Let”s take a quick look at the suggested sources!
- MIT OpenCourseWare
- webcast.berkeley
- Open Yale Courses
- National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (India)
- NIH Videocast
- Stanford University, ClassX
- iBioSeminars (University of California)
Impressive list, isn”t it?
The well known schools like Yale and Berkeley on the list gave me an idea. I decided to check out the webpages of all ivy league universities for free online courses. According to wikipedia, the ivies are the following:
- Brown University – Coursera (Brown, Yale, Northwestern and several other universities)
- Columbia University – iTunes, YouTube, Coursera
- Cornell University – CORNELLCAST
- Dartmouth College – MOOC guide page, some of the departments provide videos, but no dedicated online course page
- Harvard University – edX ( Harvard, MIT and several other universities)
- Princeton University – Coursera
- University of Pennsylvania – Coursera
- Yale University – Open Yale Courses
As you can see from the list above, basically all ivy league schools provide free courses either on their webpage or via other channels.
So if you always wondered how attending a Harvard lecture feels like or your University don”t (or didn”t) provide classes about some subject you”re interested in, check out one of these courses and prepare to get smart.
